California CCW Renewal 8-Hour Course

This 8-hour course is designed for current permit holders seeking to renew their California Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license. The curriculum meets all training requirements under Senate Bill (SB) 2, focusing on an up-to-date review of laws and a demonstration of safe firearm handling and shooting proficiency.

Here is a current list of all issuing authorities we are authorized to provide training. This list is regularly updated and should always be considered to be accurate.

Course Content and Structure

Classroom Instruction (Approximately 4 hours)

This portion provides a crucial legal and safety update. Topics covered include:

  • Legal Updates: A review of recent changes to California firearm laws, particularly those from SB 2, including new restrictions on “sensitive places.”
  • Use of Force: Refresher on California law regarding self-defense, use of deadly force, and the legal and psychological aftermath of a defensive shooting.
  • Firearm Safety: Reinforcement of the core rules of firearm safety, safe handling, and proper storage.
  • Mental Health Awareness: As required by SB 2, a dedicated segment on mental health and available resources.

Live-Fire Range Training (Approximately 4 hours)

This practical section ensures permit holders maintain their proficiency and confidence. It includes:

  • Shooting Fundamentals: A brief review of shooting techniques to maintain accuracy.
  • Marksmanship Qualification: You’ll complete a live-fire qualification course with each firearm listed on your permit. While the specific course of fire may vary by issuing agency, it will meet or exceed the 50-round minimum required by many counties for renewal.
  • Malfunction Drills: Practice clearing common firearm malfunctions.
  • Concealment and Drawing: Drills for safely drawing from a holster and reholstering.

Prerequisites and Requirements

  • Must be a current California CCW permit holder.
  • Bring all firearms you intend to list on your renewed permit.
  • A minimum of 50 rounds of ammunition per firearm for the qualification and drills.
  • Proper eye and ear protection are required for all range activities.
